Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with results like these.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
